Marche de la Creation in Lyon on Sunday morning only
It was such a cold morning in Lyon last Sunday and I have decided to go to Marche de la Creation. Oh well, I would say it was all worth it although I didn’t look like I was enjoying it (but I was- trust me!)
So what this Marché de la creation actually is? It has been set up in 1979 by writer and ethnologist Jean-Yves Loude . It is a market full of artists all sorts, but I mean there is a real art as I seem to like it but have the attitude like – ‘this is ok but I would not hang it at my home;-) It was too artistic as for me. But I enjoyed it, I felt like a real gallery but without any ..heating or / and air conditioning 😉 But the view was amazing.
The Marche de la Creation is located just next to the river and Vieux Lyon. So on one side you can admire the Fourvier, visit Old Lyon, on the other side you can see the beautiful bridges and river. SO if you can appreciate a real art or would like an idea on how to spend Sunday morning (as the market is only open on Sundays) come and visit. Once you have been there, you can enjoy a lunch in one of the bouchons in Vieux Lyon – such a treat!
If you are more a food lover then art lover, I would recommend crossing the bridge and on the other side of the river you will find another market this time food market. And this was even better 😉 and it felt warmer. I guess everywhere there is food, it gets warmer 😉 So at this market you can find all sorts of fruits and vegetables at a very good price; you can choose cheese and wine and saucissons and bread (read: baguettes) and other pastries from the local shops and farms and its very good quality. There is a free degustation so you can enjoy cheese and wine and saucission for free; but what surprised me there was a lot of roasted chickens which were ready for you to buy…easy Sunday lunch for 4 or 8 Euros depending on how big chicken do you want (how hungry you are 😉
So ok, I decided to come back to those markets; I will definitely visit more often the food market as the food they have cannot be found in a shop; I will probably come back to Marché de la Creation when the weather is better and I will enjoy it more. I am not sure if I can afford this art as the paintings I liked very pretty expensive, but I also liked looking at the jewellery and hats and sculpture which were displayed there. If not to be bought, they can be admired on the market.
So this is another place worth visiting in Lyon. Anyway I love shopping so I will research for more markets for sure!
